Welcome to the FEJS 2009

Now that the Annual Congress 2009 is over we would like to say some special thanks, firstly we would like to thank the Volunteers who helped us out over the weekend, they were fantastic and showed real dedication. Secondly I would like to thank all our sponsors who have helped us to put together this event. The Hotel staff who’s patience during check in was appreciated and the work they had done even more so. I would also like to thank the Supervisory Board and the Members of the Secratariat for their help during the event. And finally to all the participents without whom this event would never have happened.

We are so grateful to everyone and hope that all who attended really enjoyed themselves. Pictures and Audio will be posted up soon. I hope to see everyone at the General Assembly in November.

Thanks again

Josh

The University of Lincoln is to host the biggest conference for young journalists ever staged in the UK.

In April this year the Forum for European Journalism Students will stage its annual congress at the University’s Brayford campus.

Journalists from across the continent will arrive in the city to discuss multi-platform media and the influence on journalism of emerging technologies and modes of communication.

The role of blogging, podcasting, video journalism and social networking sites – and their role in the future of the industry – will be up for debate.

Representatives from the BBC and Press Association, Northcliffe Newspapers and BT as pioneers of these communication channels, will be among the notable names holding debates and workshops during the conference. Sponsors include the European Union and Coca Cola.

Over five days, more than 100 young journalists from almost 30 different countries will visit Lincoln to learn more about multi-platform media and take back basic skills to their own places of work.

The FEJS has existed since 1986, but its yearly meeting has never been to the UK before.

The organisation’s 24th Annual Congress will take place at the University of Lincoln, UK, from 2 to 7 April 2009.

The event is being organised by Gina Davies, third-year Journalism student at the University of Lincoln.

Gina said: “I got involved in the FEJS in 2007 and have visited some fantastic countries with the organisation – from Belgium to Croatia and even the Swiss Alps. They were so excited to have somebody from the UK involved. This organisation had been going since 1986 and we’d never been involved before. I told them about how great Lincoln and the University was and suggested they hold their next Annual Congress here, the result was unanimous – and there are 27 different countries involved. Now Lincoln will be known as the capital for European journalism in the UK, which is a great achievement in terms of tourism and economic regeneration.”

The conference website www.fejs.co.uk was launched in December 2008 and had more than 1,200 hits in a month.

Organisers are seeking corporate sponsorship from companies in the region to support the event. Firms which could offer gratis or discounted services or products such as stationary, catering, transport or accommodation are also invited to get in touch.

For more information on the conference, and sponsorship opportunities, visit www.fejs.co.uk or email info@fejs.co.uk.
